I. Indonesian as a Foreign Language Program An Intensive

Indonesian language and culture program designed for the following levels:

  • Beginner Level
  • Pre-Intermediate Level
  • Intermediate Level
  • Pre-Advanced Level

The learning process is carried out through classroom activities,

Peer-tutoring, observation and fieldwork (excursion), and extracurricular

activities. Some unique features of the program include:

  • The immersion method of instruction is used so that learners are conditioned and socialized in practical Indonesian
  • From the inception of the program.
  • Course content is adjusted to match the expertise and needs of the learners.
  • Indonesian grammar is presented within a context that emphasizes communicative fluency foremost.
  • Learners are individually placed with local Indonesian families in order to give a deeper understanding of Indonesian culture and daily life.
  • The program is flexible; the students can join it according to their capability and need.
  • The tuition fee is U$ 1150 for each person (included airport pickup service, home stay, learning material, out bond activities, and social class)

The program faculty consists of professional language instructors, peer

tutors, and Indonesian studies experts. Each has proven competency and

experience in helping foreign learners to understand Indonesian language

and culture. Peer tutors are matched with students in similar fields or

according to similar interests.

II. Area Studies Program

Area Studies Program is the particular designed program for non-native

speaker of Indonesia who wants to study Indonesian aspects in depth

conceptually and factually in one month.

The purpose of this program is to facilitate the student (non-native speaker

of Indonesia) to have a deeply and objectively understanding about the fact

and phenomenon about many things related to the existence of community,

country, and nation of Indonesia from several points of view and intentions.

The studies consist of: (1) Art and Culture of Indonesia, (2) Politic and Law of

Indonesia, (3) Contemporary History of Indonesia, and (4) Social-Economy

of Indonesia.

Structure/Content of the Program As a particular program which is oriented

to the learning of Indonesian aspects, Area Studies Intensive Program in

Indonesia is held in one month (4 weeks effectively) with class load 8

semester credit (8 sks). The structure/content of the program is comprised

Classroom Activity

Program Implementation Area Studies Intensive Program in Indonesia is

carried out in four weeks with the activities:

1. The first - second week (Week I - II), the students follow the introduction

of Indonesian Language class: 5 x 2 study hours/week; the Compulsory

Area Studies class (Art an Culture of Indonesia): 2 x 2 study hours/week;

and the Introduction of Elective Area Studies class (Politic and Law,

Contemporary History, and Social Economy of Indonesia) 3 x 1 x 2 study

hours/week.

2. The third week (Week III), the students learns in depth about the

Compulsory Area Studies (4 x 2 study hours/week) and the Elective Area

Studies (3 x 3 x 2 study hours/week).

3. The fourth week (Week IV), the students do the field experience activity

into Community Independence Institution (CII), according to the

intended area study (the CII chosen and field experience location are

determined by the program).

4. Visiting Class and Social Class are carried out twice (2x) during the

program with the objects: (1) Mount Bromo and (2) Countryside.

5. Institutional Visiting Class is carried out twice (2x) during the program

according to the majority of Area Studies.

6. In the end of the program the students are required to make a report and

then present their result on the field experience program.

Instructional Design

The instructional is designed in the form of:

1. Lecturing (in Japanese language, Indonesian language, and/or English

language), is conveyed by academicians/scholars, practitioners,

observers/concerning people, and doers/achievers on each area studies

which have been determined by the program.

2. Discussion (in Japanese language and/or in Indonesian language).

3. Excursion class and social class.

4. Field experience activity into Community Independence Institution.

5. Making report and presentation (in Japanese language, Indonesian

language, and/or English language).

4. People Service Industry/Manufacture; and

5. Tourism Object: Bromo Mountain

Requirements of the Students and Program Implementation For people from

Japan (students and/or Japanese native speaker), the technical terms and

requirements are determined by SHINKO OMC as a sole agent, including the

selection, coordination, and orientation; either the program or

non-program. The program are able to carried out or implemented with the

condition is followed by at least 3 (three) people.
